Instagram’s importance for e-commerce grows every day. Especially during COVID-19, Instagram users are spending more time on the platform. According to Statista, Turkey ranks 6th in the world for Instagram use, after Russia, followed by Japan, Mexico and the United Kingdom.

This period, when Instagram use and content creation on Instagram have grown so much, is also a great opportunity for websites that sell through e-commerce. E-commerce  sites can showcase their products on Instagram and, through Instagram Shopping, tag them and turn them directly into sales. As Instagram use grows among brands, businesses and end users, those who want to reach more people take care to use hashtags correctly as well as create good content.

Using Hashtags the Right Way on Instagram

So what should e-commerce sites keep in mind when using hashtags to make better use of their Instagram accounts?

Opening Hashtags

Right after your Instagram caption, use hashtags that represent your brand or e-commerce site, such as #brandname, #sitename or #slogan. This way, the hashtags show which brand or site the product belongs to, and clicking that hashtag shows all your products.

General Hashtags

Right after the opening hashtags, use industry hashtags related to the sector of the product you’re sharing. For example, if you’re sharing a home textile product, you can use hashtags such as #instahome, #home or #hometextiles.

Category Hashtags

These indicate the category of the product being shared. For example, if you’re sharing a kitchen product, you can use #kitchen and related hashtags. If it’s a bedroom product, you can support it with hashtags like #bedroom.

Product Hashtags

These describe the product itself or what it contains, such as #decorativeglass or #patternedglass. You can create product hashtags from the product’s name or features.

Finally, a brand in the e-commerce sector would use the following Instagram hashtag sequence for a decorative glass item in the home textiles category and kitchen subcategory.

#markaismi #siteismi #slogan #instahome #home #evtekstili #mutfak #dekoratifcam #desenlicam
